With the summer approaching, you may be thinking about where to take your kids for a vacation. You can find great family vacations all over the country, from outdoor adventures, to water fun, to relaxing in the sun.
One destination you may not have considered is Maryland. A Maryland vacation could be just the thing you need — it has plenty of sunshine, enough for the kids to do, and you can spend a week exploring all the entertaining things to do around the state.
As you travel in Maryland, here are few spots you will not want to miss.
- Deep Creek Lake
This 65-mile long waterway runs along the coast of Garrett County, situated in the western most part of the state. It is considered the largest fresh water lake in Maryland, and visitors can enjoy the outdoors in a cabin or lodge, many of which can be rented out for extended periods of time. The water is perfect for boating, swimming, and fishing, and the surrounding areas have navigable trails for hiking and biking. Deep Creek Lake is also home to Adventure Sports Center International, one of only two Olympic-sized white water courses in the country.
- Baltimore
This city is perhaps the most well-known in Maryland, and is also the biggest in the state. It offers a wide variety of arts and entertainment, making it a great vacation for couples and families alike. Little Italy, an area designated to authentic Italian food, is recognized by residents as an area with superior quality restaurants, and families can also watch a Baltimore Orioles baseball game, located close-by in Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Families can also board a water taxi, a boat that takes them along the city’s famous Inner Harbor. For a small lesson in history, parents can show their children Fort McHenry, where the national anthem was penned.
- Ocean City Beach
One of the best places to vacation in Maryland is Ocean City Beach. Ocean City is a resort town located off the southeastern tip of Maryland, and attracts approximately eight million visitors every year for great family vacations. About ten miles long, the beach offers hours of relaxation, tanning, and swimming in either the bay on one side, or the ocean on the other, making Ocean City a barrier island. There is a boardwalk that stretches for over two miles, lined with restaurants, stores, and even an amusement park.
